The Grand Sea Dragon Offering Dharma Assembly returns with a renewed intention: to make vast offerings to the Dragon King. One of the guardian celestial beings within the Eight Great Divisions of Heavenly Beings.According to Kadham Collection, vol. 12, making offerings to the dragon (nāga) clan on auspicious days can purify body–speech–mind, support health and longevity, gladden the dragons, attract good fortune, ensure smooth travel, and create favorable conditions for Dharma study and realization.
Our association performs three offerings—food, vase, and smoke—through the following three steps:
Filling the Dragon Vase (Dragon Bottle)On a set day of group chanting, we place offerings favored by the Dragon King, gemstones, “dragon medicine,” mandala ash; together with written prayers into a consecrated vase. The vase serves as a bridge for aspirations and merit.
Preparing Dragon Food (Torma)The day before sailing, we prepare and bless the torma with mantras, transforming it into pure, delightful nourishment for the dragon beings.
Offering at SeaOn auspicious dates aligned with Western, Tibetan, and Lunar calendars, we journey offshore and respectfully offer the consecrated vases, dragon food, and mandala-colored powders to the ocean, reciting the appropriate rites and invoking Avalokiteśvara, Nāgarāja Buddha, and Cakrasaṃvara. Merit is dedicated for favorable weather, peace and happiness for all beings, and the fulfillment of wholesome wishes.
Note: The preparatory steps require specific materials; please register in advance. If you cannot attend, you may still participate in this auspicious merit through a donation.
We warmly invite you, your family, and friends to join us. May this pure offering protect the world like the boundless sea, and may its good karma nourish all beings like sweet nectar.
